The Ocean Beyond

Did you know that mangrove trees only grow to a certain height and then they just stop growing?
I am not sure if I knew that before or not, but today I am sitting on a deck overlooking a mangrove patch, and it is beautiful to see the naturally manicured tops flat in front of me and graciously not blocking the view of the ocean beyond.

God’s creation is a blessing that I sadly do not fully appreciate often enough.  This morning as I sit waiting for the sun to rise above the horizon I am overwhelmed with awe at our heavenly Father. He spoke all of this into existence and knows exactly how many leaves are on each and every mangrove shrub and all the grains of sand on the ocean floor.

He knows all of this and yet, He knows me. Every hair on my head, and every part of my being. God knows me and He loves me. He loves me enough that He sent His one and only son to earth to take the punishment of my sins and die on the cross so that I can live in eternity with him.

This gift of love is for you. This gift of grace and compassion is for you. God loves you enough that He gave his son, a living sacrifice so that you can live.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17

That is love.
