Sunday is a Comin

Friday’s here but Sunday’s a comin!

This is a phrase I have heard all my life and until I took a moment to fully reflect on what this statement is saying I didn’t truly have an appreciation for what it is all about.

Christ DIED for my sins. He died for me! He stood and silently took the punishment for all my choices that led to sin, He took my lashings, He took my mocking, He took my pain. And then He let them nail His Holy body to a cross. He suffered and he died…

For Me.

This reality sometimes is just a thing I know, and sometimes it is exactly as it should be.  A deep awe and appreciation for what He did. He didn’t have to, God did not have to sacrifice His son for me, but He did so I could be forgiven, redeemed, and His.

But Sunday is a comin!

After receiving the pain and humiliation of Friday, Jesus descended into Hell and experienced that horror. Then after the third day He was raised from the dead! The serpent’s head was crushed, the battle won! Satan has been defeated!

Jesus took the punishment for my sin in order to defeat Satan. In order that we could be redeemed and have eternal life. In order that we can have a full relationship with the Lord, and experience eternal life with him.

The truth of Christ’s sacrifice is that God loved enough that He gave His only son as a sacrifice for our sins so that we can be saved.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so whosoever believeth on Him would not perish but have eternal life.

Friday is here – But Sunday is a comin!
