She Is Alone

The room is full of people
Veterans, children, mothers, fathers
All together enjoying each other
Talking and laughing
Telling stories and sharing tales.

She sits alone
in the midst of the crowd
Alone on a chair by a lonely wall
Folks pass by,
some smile With faint recognition.
Some stop
But most continue on
She is unimportant. She is a stranger
She is alone.

The crowds surge past
handshakes and hugs
Smiles and laughter
Yet she sits alone
Surrounded by people who do not care
Do not know of her pain
Do not want to see her tears.
She sits alone and silently cries.

Nobody sees her tears.
Nobody feels her heartache
Nobody wants her
Nobody needs her
She is alone.
