“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing.”

For most of my life I couldn’t quite grasp the concept of ‘pray without ceasing’, until recently. I’m pretty sure I always had a realistic and healthy prayer life; in that I understand that prayer is not about getting what I want or telling God about my plans. Oh sure, I find myself in that mindset far too often, but the truth of my understanding of prayer is more mature.

Recently my heart and thoughts were transformed by God’s love in a way that I could never have imagined before. It is almost as though there is a strand between myself and heaven connecting directly to God, and that He is right here where I can just lean over and chat with Him.

Of course that is simplifying things, but the connection that has developed through prayer and meditation is more distinct now than it has ever been. And I find myself praying throughout the day, not to ask for stuff, but just to be connected.

Pray without ceasing doesn’t mean that we should hole up in a closet and talk constantly. To pray without ceasing means that our heart can be connected with our Lord every moment of the day.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Today’s thought: Through prayer, we have a direct connection with the Almighty God, the creator of the universe. What an honor!
